Welcome to the first FUEL newsletter for the newly formed Chevrolet Performance group – a collective of GM Performance Parts, GM Performance Division, and GM Racing. We're extremely excited to kick things off. And while we're at it, we'd like to thank you for helping us make 2011 one of the best years in the history of Chevrolet. On the racetrack, you helped us set a record at the NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series and win Le Mans with the Corvette Racing team, not to mention hundreds of local circle track and drag strip victories. On the street, you bought our crate engines and high-performance engine components in record numbers. Thank you!
As an enthusiast, you more than likely keep a running list of "most wanted" engines, parts, and components in the overcrowded dream-garage of your brain. Well, with the debut of so many hot engines, parts, and components from Chevrolet Performance, 2012 is the perfect time to make that list even fatter. With that in mind, the Chevrolet Performance team has assembled this wish list to fuel your desires.

EVEN MORE POWER FOR YOUR LS ENGINE
This compact powerhouse is based on the Cadillac CTS-V LSA engine, which, aside from a slightly different intercooler cover, is very similar to the ZL1 assembly. Our LSA Supercharger Kit includes a fully assembled system with the supercharger intake, fuel injectors, cast cover, intercooler, front pulley, throttle body, and gasket set. Maximum boost pressure varies with engine displacement, compression ratio, and other factors, but it is capable of producing some serious boost. You'll need proper tuning and an adequate fuel system, but when it's ready to go, our new LSA supercharger has the capability of taking your LS or LSX engine's performance to 580+ horses. Download our 2012 catalog for more info about the LSA Supercharger Kit and all the hot new products from Chevrolet Performance.

A BEST-OF-BOTH-WORLDS PUMP-GAS STREET SWEEPER THAT CHURNS OUT 525 HP @ 6300 RPM
Face it. Chevrolet Performance engineers have your dream job. Not only do they work with some of the most formidable performance technology, they get to help sculpt its evolution. Sometimes, that even means factory hot-rodding. Our LS376/525 is the prime example of what happens when our engineers take a proven performer – like the dead-serious LS3 – and use their expertise to create something really magnificent. Its foundation is our red-hot LS3, with six-bolt mains, a Corvette-quality rotating assembly, and high-flow LS3/L92 cylinder heads. Chevrolet Performance engineers specified the ASA Hot Cam (P/N 12480110) to extract maximum power from this over-achieving foundation. Its .525" lift and 226°/236° I/E duration (@.050" checking clearance) make it the hottest hydraulic stick in the rack.

QUICKER AND EASIER ADAPTATION FOR COUNTLESS DRAG-RACING AND HOT-ROD PROJECTS
Our 5.3L Controller Kit is a true stand-alone system specially programmed for retrofit installations. All that's needed to get a vehicle running with this kit are power and ground sources, a 58-psi (400-kPa) fuel pump and an electric cooling fan. Chevrolet Performance has even included hardware and components that don't typically come with used engines, such as the wiring harness, mass airflow meter, and electronic throttle pedal – so you can save the parts-hunting and get right to the good stuff. The kit is programmed for easy use with our automatic transmissions and includes an SES (Service Engine Soon) LED indicator embedded in the fuse box. Our 2012 catalog features more info.

LESS TIME IN THE GARAGE EQUALS MORE TIME ON (OR OFF!) THE ROAD
Chevrolet Performance has done it again. We pioneered the concept of crate engines more than 40 years ago. And now we're taking the convenience and efficiency of the crate engine one step further with the launch of our "Connect & Cruise" Crate Powertrain Systems – factory-engineered engine-and-transmission combinations that include all the electronic control modules, wiring harnesses, and other key components in one streamlined package. All you need to do is pick your poison – the 430-hp LS3 (P/N CPSLS34L65E) or the 556-hp LSA (P/N CPSLSA4L85E). Our engineers took care of the rest.

THE MOST POWERFUL CRATE ENGINE WE'VE EVER OFFERED
The rumors are true. Chevrolet Performance's new LSX454R crate engine delivers more than 750 hp. By far the most powerful LS engine in our portfolio, it is the most powerful crate engine we've ever offered. What goes into such a beast? The LSX454R is a high-compression, solid-roller combination that uses our new LSX DR cylinder heads for tremendous airflow, complemented with an exclusive, high-rise open-plenum intake manifold. Add your Dominator-type carburetor and you're ready for action. It's all here – virtually everything you need to build the ultimate bracket racer.

BUILD YOUR OWN LS7/LS9. NEED WE SAY MORE??
You read that right. For the first time ever, Chevrolet Performance is offering you the chance to build your own Chevrolet Performance LS7 or LS9 crate engine right in the factory. That means you get the peace of mind that comes from purchasing a factory-engineered crate engine along with the indescribable satisfaction of building it yourself. Customers who order the build experience will visit GM's unique Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., where they will join a specially trained engine builder to assist in the start-to-finish assembly of the engine they purchased – from installing the crankshaft in the cylinder block to topping off the engine with its intake system. In the case of the LS9, it also means installing the supercharger assembly. Upon completion, a personalized nameplate is added to the engine, making it a true one-of-a-kind.

COPO Camaro Concept
It's official: Chevrolet will build 69 COPOs for 2012, the first purpose-built Camaro drag-racing specialty car designed to compete with the quickest in NHRA's Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. National records for quarter-mile times in these contests are in the 9-second range.

"The COPO Camaro is going to shake up the sportsman drag-racing ranks this summer and give Chevy fans a great new reason to cheer on the Bowtie," said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles & Motorsports. "And while it was developed strictly for the drag strip, the COPO Camaro is infused with the same performance pedigree that every Camaro shares." The 69-car production for the 2012 COPO Camaro matches the original number of ZL-1 COPO Camaros made in 1969. COPO stands for Central Office Production Order and was Chevrolet's special-order system used by dealers to build high-performance models in the 1960s. Engines will be assembled in Wixom, Mich., at GM's Performance Build Center, where the buyer can opt to participate in the engine assembly similar to Chevrolet's Corvette Engine Build Experience and the Chevrolet Performance Build Your Own Crate Engine programs. A special collector's package will be offered that includes the purchase of all three engines with the COPO – including one installed in the car at delivery – with each engine serial number matched to the car.

The COPO Camaro concept was first shown at SEMA last year, where the overwhelming response by more than 2,000 racing enthusiasts shaped the decision to produce a limited number of COPO Camaros. To ensure fair access, an independent third party was used to identify the first individuals who would be offered the opportunity to buy one of the new COPO Camaros. Those selected will receive confirmation early this year, with instructions on how to fulfill the purchase contract, choose the engine option for their intended racing class, and take delivery.
The 2012 COPO Camaro is being offered as a performance part with a specific part number (P/N 20129562). It cannot be registered, titled, licensed, or driven on public roads or highways. COPO is specifically offered for off-highway, competitive NHRA use only. The COPO Camaro is designed to NHRA racing specifications, including a solid axle and a full chrome moly roll cage. Inside, most of the standard sound-deadening and power accessories have been deleted in order to optimize weight for NHRA racing. Also included are a pair of racing bucket seats (no rear seat), a safety harness for the driver, a competition floor shifter, and Chevrolet Performance gauges.
The three engines offered in the COPO Camaro program were developed to align with the top classes in NHRA's various Stock Eliminator and Super Stock ranks:
•   An LS7-based naturally aspirated 427 (7.0L) V-8
•   A supercharged, LSX-based 327 (5.3L) V-8 featuring a 2.9L supercharger
•   A supercharged, LSX-based 327 (5.3L) V-8 featuring a 4.0L supercharger

FUEL will keep you posted on COPO production updates, as will Chevrolet Performance's Facebook page. In the meantime, go here to watch it in action.
Click to learn more about the Chevrolet Sonic
Chevrolet Performance isn't only about big muscles; we're about big power in little packages, too. If you need a small vehicle with plenty of performance potential, the all-new 2012 Sonic is the one to have.

Made of the same performance DNA as its big brother the Corvette, the Sonic is equipped with power-dense four-cylinder engines, including an available ECOTEC 1.4L turbo offering 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. It's the only turbocharged engine in its class and achieved 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 8.2 seconds on the test track.

And it looks good, too. Sonic's motorcycle-inspired round headlamps and taillamps and wide, planted, wheels-at-the-corners stance convey performance and command attention. Fluid body lines suggest movement even while standing still. The chrome grille surrounds and matte black honeycomb grille are enough to make mouths water.
